Paul tells Timothy about how his chains advanced the gospel. Chains are part of every Christian life: either you’re chained by fear or you face the chains of persecution. St. John Henry Newman chose the latter, and this is the way to eternal freedom. “The Word of God,” Paul tells us, “is not bound.” And he says, “If we suffer, we shall reign with him.”
