Why do I beat around the bush? I have questioned how explicitly Christian my art should be, but a few days ago I have come to see that there cannot be compromise in talking about my art. How can I forsake Christ, the source of all that is good? I have talked in convoluted and vague ways about, for example, drapery painting. Today in morning prayer I read Jeremiah 1. O God, I pray put your word in my mouth, your Word. I am a poor beggar before you, my God.

Isaac wrote this while working in a secular art program at Davidson College. An observer associated with the college called it a work of grace when the posthumous art show organized by the students and faculty put Isaac’s explicitly Christian themes in full light. The show is online here: https://www.davidsoncollegeartgalleries.org/uncate…
